The Heroes of Nationwide
The Nationwide Independent Fellowship just completed its second annual meeting at Peoples Baptist Church. This fellowship was a resounding success. Some of America's finest preachers were in attendance. Dr. Bob Kelly was scheduled to preach the opening message but became seriously ill and could not attend. Dr. Max Barton, moderator, asked me to preach in Dr. Kelly's place. I was humbled to say the least, but thrilled that I was considered.
The fellowship was a great success. No one had axes to grind and the Lord Jesus Christ was lifted up. Every message seemed to be right on target and was what was needed for the hour. On Tuesday morning, Evangelist Ron Comfort spoke on the Holiness of God. My, what a message! At the close of the message the altars were filled. I was so moved with conviction to become a more holy man of God, as were the other preachers in attendance.
Dr. Max Barton has become my dear friend for whom I have much respect. Dr. Barton did a great job in putting the conference together. God was good and I look forward to next year as we move to the Franklin Road Baptist Church in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, where Dr. Mike Norris is the pastor. I am anticipating a great time of fellowship in October of next year.
I cannot end this article without saying something about the great folks that I pastor. The people of our church were the real heroes. From those that parked cars, kept nurseries, fixed baskets, sang in the choir, ushered and greeted folks, to those that cooked food and those that served the food. Oh, and I can't leave out the four young men that shined shoes for the meeting. Our maintenance men did a superb job in building props and maintaining the grounds, along with those that kept the buildings clean and fresh. Please know that I was so proud of you and love you much. You made me so proud to be called your pastor. Many preachers bragged on you to me, and I count a privilege to be call you my people. Remember that I love you with all of my heart! Let's keep serving God together.
