Mile Marker "48"

February 2, 2007, today I reach mile marker number "48." A mile marker is just an indicator of where you are on a trip. A mile marker lets you know how close you are getting to your destination. I don't feel old; I feel excited! I am excited about the days ahead . . . excited about what the Lord has in store for me this day . . . excited about what God has for me in the future . . . excited about what the Lord wants to do with me and for me. God is so good, all the time!

I am especially excited about what God wants to do with Peoples Baptist Church. I have the privilege of pastoring some of the greatest people in the world, people who have befriended my family and me through the years. I have been at PBC for almost 26 years and have seen many come and go. I have met and ministered with some great people through the years, and I am the better for it. I want to keep on standing and loving people in the process.

One thing I have learned is that God is in control and He is the consuming fire in my life. I cherish my time and my walk with a holy God. Isn't that something? The God of this universe allows us to walk with Him, talk with Him, and fellowship in His presence. What an awesome God we serve! Yes, I am 48 but looking for great days ahead. Let's accomplish everything we can in these last days we have. Recently I had Dr. Raymond Barber preach for me, and I asked him to sign my Bible. He penned these words in the fly-leaf: "Keep a bended knee, and an eye on the sky, for He is coming soon." Praise the Lord! Let's keep on keeping on for Jesus.

I want to thank my church for their faithfulness and for their love. I am encouraged often by their love for God and for their pastor. Great days are ahead. Let's keep looking up! By the time I am 50, I want to be wide open and doing all I can for the Lord Jesus Christ! These are not sad days for me, but rather great days with a Caleb spirit to do something for God!
