State of the Church Address
The first Sunday of the new year was a great success. We had almost 700 in attendance Sunday morning and several were saved. Anytime people are saved I believe the service is a success. The Pensacola basketball team stopped at Peoples for the Sunday morning service on a road trip headed to Nashville, Tennessee. The young men looked sharp, and I was impressed when all of them sat on the front row in church.
Sunday night was especially good as we revealed our theme for the new year and heard from 12 different departmental heads concerning ministries in which we are involved. I preached from 1 Samuel 17, where David asked the question: "Is there not a cause?" Our theme this year is "For the cause of Christ." Each person took two or three minutes telling us what was accomplished this past year and what our goals are for 2007. We heard from these folks:
Randy Rickner - Bus Ministry
Jonathan Wilkins - Spanish Ministry
Mark Bullock - Academy
Jared Matthews - Orchestra
Lou Dryka - Children's Ministry
Peggy Bullock - Kindergarten Ministries
Matt Williams - Reformers Unanimous
Trish McCoy - Ladies Ministry
Wayne Meeks - Youth Ministries
Alan Saunders - Missions Department
Al Cox - Downtown Mission Ministry
Ray Turner - Senior Ministries & Choir
It was exciting to hear all of the things happening at Peoples Baptist Church. Our year is packed with things to do and places to serve. God has blessed our ministry and for that I am so grateful. I think that it is the greatest thing in the world to be saved, on the way to heaven, with a wonderful place to serve while on the trip. Let's get involved this year reaching people for God. Everything we do should be motivated "for the cause of Christ." Remember that this preacher loves you and that "It Pays to Serve God."
